Roo sat down, coffee in hand and had a listen to the brand new EP You’re Sinking from local Alternative Rock four-piece Electric Zebra. Have a listen HERE.
This entire release is a fantastic display of alternative-rock with very strong pop sensibilities displayed in mixing, songwriting, arrangement and overall production.
The six-tracks are kicked off with title track You’re Sinking. This single is hook-laden with so many musical points of interest and introduces us to the very well-produced sound of this EP.
Anything You Ignore starts straight in with some heavier grunge-influenced sounds used tastefully. This is yet another hook-laden track with some fantastic guitar sounds, clever and relatable lyrics, sing-along chorus and huge drums and bass.
Ghost Coast takes a slightly different direction and is heavier and more musically experimental whilst still managing to be catchy as hell.
Certainty follows and uses hints of the heaviness of the previous track and has some amazing vocal points of interest including gang vocals.
Escalator is funky with atmospheric guitars and a heavy chorus that lends itself to becoming instantly implanted in the listeners’ brain. The vocal delivery is passionate without overpowering the amazing sounds of the instruments.
Closing out this EP is Far As I Know which has a vibe all its’ own. Reminiscent of slacker rock of the 90s with a shiny twist and amazing backing vocals reminiscent of The Beach Boys.
This EP is a real treat to the ears. It is clear when listening to these songs that Electric Zebra are extremely well-skilled at putting a song together. Their mastery of arrangement, accents, delivery and instrumental points of interest have not gone unnoticed, although they are seamless in helping deliver the message, mood and atmosphere of these songs. The team of people that they have worked with for recording, engineering and production and mastering have been very well chosen to help deliver the very slick sound of this entire release.
