Everybody’s favourite live band Baltimore Gun Club have been busy in the studio and we are lucky enough to have an in depth listen to their shiny new single My Days as premiered on radio this morning on Echo Boom, 4ZZZ. To quell the impending fangirling at this awesome band’s new track Roo has asked Dean to assist her with this review for the sake of moderate reporting.
My Days starts emotively with a quiet ferocity before opening up ever so slightly and withdrawing again. The use of dynamic contrast catches the ear and makes clear the light and shade of tone, emotion and sounds. The chorus – holy hell, that chorus - talk about catchy. The chorus takes the listener straight back to the 90’s. I know we say that a lot around here, but flavours of Nirvana, Silverchair and Weezer can be heard throughout this song, especially in the hook-laden chorus. The sounds on this recording are crystal clear, balanced and although heavy they are kind to the ear. The song finishes suddenly and unceremoniously and leaves you wanting to listen again.
My Days will be released in late November and is a brilliant teaser for their highly anticipated, sophomore, self-titled album that will be released in early 2019. We’ve also been lucky enough to have a sneaky peek at the accompanying film clip and in one word, it is – amazing.
