What do you get when you mix humorous and serious social commentary with incredible musicianship, excellent songwriting and fantastic production? You get the new album from The Disgruntled Taxpayers, that’s what.
To say that I have been hanging out for this recording is an understatement. These are songs that I know all the words and parts to from countless fantastic live experiences and I had extremely high hopes for the recording. I am in no way disappointed, in fact, I am delighted. The Taxplayahs as I call them have added a few tasteful sounds, guitar parts and percussion to these recordings that lifts the songs even higher. This album is from an amazing live act with a cult underground following that regularly yells things like ‘bread’ or chicken noises out at their shows. This recording is different from the live experience, but all the songs still work. The musicianship, songwriting, production, arrangement, recording and performance convey the mood, character, passion, humour and stories very well. Influences of punk, ska, country, blues and rock and roll can all be heard on this album and no two songs are the same.
Spoiler alert – The track listing for the album is as follows –
Burn The Formula
Five Dollar Toaster
Fried Chicken Gave Me Boobs
Party Pies Cocaine Paddy Wagons
